Tollgrade’s Cheetah product line lowers HFC network operational support costs through integrated, proactive network assurance. The battleground between traditional telcos and cable operators has clearly expanded to three fronts, representing all of the coveted“triple play” services. While each tries to preserve their incumbent customer base, all service providers are introducing new service technologies into existing network architectures with the intent to gain market share from each other’s subscriber base through bundled service offerings and distinctive quality-of-service claims.

The HFC network is vulnerable to constant changing RF conditions that are difficult to isolate and resolve, resulting in costly truck rolls. Cable operators estimate that the majority of their troubles — including those relating to multi-layered IP services — are within the HFC network (from headend to home).
